What To Pack For A Beach Vacation In Mexico

The weather in Mexico is perfect for your beach vacation. The sun is shining, the water is warm and you feel free as a bird. Your plans will have to be absolutely perfect to ensure that your vacation goes smooth as silk and that you don’t leave anything behind. Don’t let the last minute bustle melt your mind. Follow these tips, and you’ll be sure you have everything you need for an enjoyable time in Mexico  (especially Cancun).

As the first holiday of the summer draws near, you’ll want to make sure you’re prepared for all situations. Just like any other organized trip, a beach vacation in Mexico requires a hefty amount of preparation before boarding your flight. The packing lists below will get you packed for everything from rainy skies to outdoor sports.

Imagine sipping on a frozen fruit margarita while staring out at the crystal blue waters that stretch for miles before you. You’ll be enjoying the warmth of the Mexican sun without even a hint of humidity. All around you are palm trees, Christmas tree-shaped cacti, and umbrella clad tables laid out with colorful beach umbrellas and chaise lounges. The faint sound of steel drums add to the ambience as children play in the sand. That really does sound like paradise, doesn’t it? Chances are you’re looking forward to experiencing that beach vacation again, but you can’t help feeling a bit concerned about how your skin will react to all that sun exposure. Here’s what you can do to prepare yourself and have your skin ready for some serious fun in the sun.

It’s time to hit the beach and start vacationing. I’ve always loved warm beaches and even though I live in a not-so-warm city, if I can visit a beach every now and then, that’s great. A beach vacation is all about being on the beach enjoying surfing, swimming, diving and howling at the moon on quiet nights with your spouse or companion. Make sure you come well prepared as there’s so much to do and see that it’s easy to forget stuff.

When most people plan a vacation, they take time to learn about their destination. They might look at websites or read reviews on Tripadvisor.com. Sometimes they just ask family and friends what they liked and didn’t like about their trip. There’s less time spent planning the actual items needed for the trip. This is understandable, especially if the vacation is being taken in a place that has similar weather year round.

With many of you heading out to beautiful sunny Mexico this season, I thought I’d share my personal beach vacation packing list for Mexico from my trip to Tulum earlier this year. In June, my mom and I celebrated our birthdays by spending 5 days in one of my favorite parts of the world: the Riviera Maya.

Traveling with just one carry-on size duffle bag, I packed a 10 piece capsule wardrobe for a leisurely stay at an all-inclusive resort in Tulum. We spent one day sightseeing in Playa del Carmen, one day exploring the India Jones style Coba Ruins, and the rest of the time chilling at the resort or in the nearby downtown Tulum.

I used this Riviera Maya Vacation Packing List as inspiration – you can see how I applied TFG’s guidelines to create my own packing list and now you can too!

Beach Vacation Packing List for Mexico and Travel Outfits

To and from Cancun airport from LAX I wore stretchy, lightweight jeans with a cardigan and scarf to keep me warm on the flight. Topped it off with my hat, sandals, and souvenir purse from Guatemala. I love weightless and easy to wear circles scarves such as these.

As a diver, I spend alot of time on the beach and in the water and this terry cloth beach cover up has been super useful even doubling as a towel. I also use this reversible bathing suit to maximize my space. Everyone asks me about the above yellow dress and this terry cloth beach cover up is the closest I could find.

The key to packing light is to use packing cubes to compress your clothing shown in this video!

At night, I always like to explore so this outfit is cute yet comfy. Maxi skirts and dresses are a popular option for travel. I have an eye on this convertible dress / maxi skirt from Modcloth.

The next day, I wore the same top as the night before because it was still relatively clean and I’m able to get the most use from it between washes. These are some of my favorite (but lazy) stylish travel accessories.
