Planning a trip to Portland but don’t want to stray too far? Here are some of the best local spots in Portland for you to hit up this spring break.

Ever since I moved to Portland, I’ve been planning on going to one of the beaches on the coastline of Oregon, because they sound amazing to someone who grew up in Louisiana and never thought they’d see such amazing bodies of water in real life. But before I could do that, I had procrastinated so much I ran out of time to grab some books from the library and study for my physics class. There is a lot going on in Portland these days that provides fun for everyone, but especially if you’re on a budget and don’t have a lot of cash to splash around. It is possible to have a great time without spending a fortune.

What To Do For Spring Break In Portland Oregon

Portland is the city where everything under the sun shines brightly. From the impressive architecture and perfectly manicured gardens to the vibrant art scene and the delectable cuisine, there is something for everyone to fall in love with. The city is small but brimming in an eclectic mix of cultures from around the world that together have led Portland to be known as one of the most diverse cities on earth. While there are many things you can do here, listed this article are just a few great choices that promise to give you a memorable visit.

See a waterfall. Spring is the best time for a waterfall hike! We love Hardy Falls and Wahclella Falls, and both are easy to access with kids. Feeling more ambitious? Go on a day trip to the Trail of Ten Falls, the “crown jewel” of Oregon trails.

Volunteer with the kids. During the busy school year it can feel impossible to make time to volunteer with your kids. Spring break is the perfect opportunity to give back. We’ve rounded up family-friendly spots where kids are welcome to contribute.

Snap photos in the tulips. The Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival begins March 18, and the hot air balloons are back! Purchase tickets online before you go. They are limiting capacity to create a safe environment to enjoy the farm.

Go whale watching. In late March, gray whales begin traveling past the Oregon coast on their way to Alaska. Find some of the best spots to look for whales.

Visit a museum. Check out one of our featured favorites!

Skate around town. Check out one of these indoor rinks or strap on those skates and head to one of our kid-friendly bike paths.
