2) You have completed at least 12 years of schooling (in Germany), or have graduated from a university or college
3) You have an official invitation from a German university or college
4) You are between 18 and 30 years old
How do I get a visa for language learning?
You must apply for a language acquisition visa before entering the country at the responsible diplomatic mission abroad. The appropriate immigration authority in Germany must also give its consent. Exceptions are nationals of EU and EEA countries as well as Switzerland, Australia, Israel, Japan, South Korea, Canada, New Zealand and the USA, who can obtain a residence permit from the immigration authority even after entry. After you have registered and paid for the course, we will send you the official confirmation of your registration by post. You have to include the original of this certificate to the embassy when you submit your visa application.
Please note that you must prove that your stay in Germany is financially secured. You are not allowed to claim any public funds for your visit. If you cannot finance your travel and accommodation by your own means, a host residing in Germany may also commit to bear all costs arising from your stay in Germany. The immigration authority at the inviting person’s place of residence is responsible for such a declaration of obligation.
Which are the requirements to apply for a German Language course visa?
Documents required to apply for a German language course visa are:
- Two duly completed visa application forms
- A valid passport (with minimum 3 months validity period following your planned date of return and not older than 10 years, containing at least two empty visa pages)
- Confirmed registration in the language course, or, certificate of enrollment (the course must contain at least 18 hours/week of classes)
- Proof of financial means “Finanzierungsnachweis” – €10,332 per year (Submit any of the following documents):
- Personal financial statements of the last three months,
- Scholarship award certificate,

- A letter of commitment “Verpflichtungserklärung” by someone hosting you and they live in Germany
- A letter of declaration from parents – declaring their will to financially support their child for the period of their stay in Germany, as well as their salary slips or their bank account transactions over the past 6 months.

- Two recently taken portrait photographs (strict requirements, read our photo requirements page)
- Three photocopies of the passport ID pages
- Copies of the earlier Schengen visas (if applicable)
- A motivational letter for attending the language course (learn how to write a motivation letter)
- Proof of accommodation – for the complete stay
- An official letter of leave from the employer (signed and stamped) – for employees
- Proof of a paid visa fee – 60 Euro
*Note: Each original document must have 2 (two) photocopies attached.
The most important requirement for the German Student Visa is Proof of Financial Resources. For this, you should use a Blocked Account.
During the first week from entering Germany is registering their address there at the “Bürgerbüro”- residence registration offices. In such case, the visa holder has to show the confirmation of attendance in minimum 18 hours of the course lessons, as well as evidence of covered health insurance, as well as evidence of having enough money for the entire visa period.
Which are documents to apply for a residence permit as a holder of a Language Course Visa?
