Vacation With 2 Toddlers

Two toddlers are a handful, but with this trip, we had to manage three: our young children and our aging in-laws. It may sound crazy,  but we were up for the challenge.

Are you going on vacation with two toddlers? We have. We survived! And we were lucky to get through the trip without our children hating each other, or us for that matter. This is how we did it, so that you can be happier and less frazzled on your trip with toddlers.

I get it. A vacation is a well deserved break from the daily grind and responsibility. After all, isn’t that why we’re all working so hard? But sometimes planning a good trip can be tough with small children. That’s when you need this handy guide. Let’s get started.

Planning to take your family on vacation but are worried that you won’t be able to entertain your kids? Don’t worry. We’ve been there, and it’s possible!

I remember travelling a lot before my girls were born. We even took a trip to Disneyland Paris when my oldest was 6 weeks old, and my youngest was 10 months old (this feels like it was 20 years ago!). Every trip was so much fun, and I loved the fact we created wonderful memories.

I’m an avid solo traveler. I love visiting new places and exploring them at my own pace. The best part of solo travel is that you have all the time in the world to enjoy the local sights, sounds and culture. You don’t have to be back for any events or appointments so there are no time constraints—the only limit is your imagination!

The logistics of taking a vacation with a toddler may not seem appealing, but to be able to see and share the wonders of the country surely does.

Packing in diapers and figuring out how to adhere to sleep and meal schedules while still having a blast can all seem a little Herculean, but some destinations make it easier than others.

Here’s my round-up of the best vacations for toddlers.

1. Indianapolis, Indiana

Indianapolis, Indiana

One of the top vacation spots for toddlers is the picturesque city of Indianapolis, with glimmering waterways, green spaces and race cars during the world-famous Indy race.

Stay in one of the best all inclusive resorts for toddlers while visiting the city, then check out the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, which will hold your tyke’s attention—there’s quite a range of things to play with, build and learn from.

After that consider watching the local races and speeding cars—which are great for holding the attention of teens (and hubby dearest!).

If your tyke is on the adventurous side, give “shark petting” a hand at the Indianapolis Zoo.

3. Sanibel Island, Florida

Sanibel Island, Florida

For the quintessential family summer getaway to the beach, try Florida’s Sanibel Island with its gorgeous beaches strewn with seashells and calm, azure waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

Less crowded and therefore, more peaceful than the spots on/closer to mainland Florida, the shores of Sanibel Island are a great spot to just relax and soak in the sun.

Build sandcastles with your little one or help him/her start a seashell collection.

End the day on a relaxing note by watching the sun sink into the waters of the Gulf of Mexico
