Vacation In Nevis Island

Nevis Island is a tropical island that is part of the world. It offers so much, which attracts people from all over to vacation and take a break. Many people return annually, if not every year. The island is famous with its friendly people, beautiful weather and exciting locations to stay. It has an ideal gateway to all cruising boats that are sailing around. Whether you’re coming from US or Europe, the transportation will be smooth and easy to get on Nevis Island with all the facilities they provide at their port.

Nevis Island is an island of the Leeward Islands in the West Indies. It is part of the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis, which gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1983. It lies off the coast of Saint Kitts and is separated from that island by a strait that is crossed with bridges. The island has a population of about 9,400 (2010 census). The capital is Newcastle which has a population of about 2,800.

Maybe you’re tired of the same old holiday destinations. You’ve been to the Caribbean many times and would like something different. Do you know where is the best place to go if you want a new holiday experience? Or would you like to find out more about Nevis Island in Saint Kitts and Nevis islands?

Vacation In Nevis Island

If you are planning to go on a vacation, then you have many options. You can just pick any country but it is better if you go for a place where you can enjoy your holiday at the fullest. But the question is where exactly that would be? I think for this question you already have an idea and it might be somewhere in Europe or Canada.

Nevis is known as the birthplace of Alexander Hamilton, as a vacation spot for Princess Diana with her sons Harry and William, and as a recent holiday locale for the Trudeau family. Britney Spears has hung out there, too. Joining rank with this fabulous crew, my husband, baby, and I made our way to the hidden Caribbean island this past spring for our first official family vacation. Located a couple of miles from St. Kitts, Nevis is a world away from the bustling island—inhabiting a sort of otherworldly space somewhere between a luxury resort town and heaven.

Flight Plan: JFK to San Juan with a connector through Tradewind Aviation, a private charter service. Basically, it’s like flying private for the price of a seat. This was perfect for traveling with an infant. Lila did great on the 3.5-hour flight to San Juan, but it was delayed and a lot for a little one, so stopping off in a private lounge where we could relax between flights and not get on another cramped and crowded plane was ideal. The airline attendants were also lovely—the actual connector took less than an hour and was easier than taking one of the available ferries.

Where I StayedParadise Beach Nevis, the only beachfront villa resort on Nevis. The privately owned property, which opened in 2015, most recently debuted the island’s only Beach Houses, raised on stilts above the resort’s private beach, and flown in piece-by-piece from Bali. A button inside each beach house prompts a drawbridge staircase to fold down onto the beach, leaving you totally secluded high above the beach below. Because of the height of the beach houses, it wasn’t the best spot for a baby, so we happily got cozy in one of the large villas with a pool on deck—just the place to lounge while a little one naps. Paradise Beach also stocks your villas with food prior to your arrival, which is perfect for those needing to stay close to home without feeling like you’re missing out on anything.

Best Thing I Ate: While a trip to the lush grounds of Banana’s—located mere feet from the ruins of the Hamilton Estate, the family’s sugar plantation (though Alexander Hamilton himself never resided there)—was a delight, the best meal by far was cooked in our villa at Paradise Beach. On-site Chef Damien created a four-course menu which we ate by candlelight—with our gluten-free needs in mind. My husband and I enjoyed salads, a delightful spicy fish pho, perfectly grilled local fish and roasted vegetables, and refreshing grilled fruit and ice cream, all while Lila slept soundly upstairs. Otherwise it would have been a 5 pm dinner or bust!

For those ready for a night out on the town, The Sugar Cane Mill at Montpelier Hotel comes highly recommended. Book the Mill in advance—a private room with breath-taking views at no extra charge.

Best Hangout Spot:

Why the beach, bien sur. The Paradise Beach Bar seats eight and directly beside it is a private beach with views of Saint Kitts and Mount Nevis—as well as hammocks, umbrellas, and lounge chairs that seemed to be waiting every day just for us. I’ve spent many vacations running through packed days filled with activity after activity, but vacationing with a ten-month old forces you to slow down. I loved just taking in the scenery, breathing in the clean air far away from New York City, and swimming in pristine water. I even managed a stand-up paddling session solo.

Best Daytime Activities:

Hiking to Nevis Peak is a popular early morning climb. The concierge service at Paradise Beach can point you to a guide who will show off the best waterfalls along the way to the top of the 985-meter, potentially active volcano.

Or walk around historic Charlestown where you can shop, take in the sites of colorful gingerbread Victorian homes and Georgian-style buildings, and visit the Museum of Nevis History, the birthplace of Alexander Hamilton. What the town lacks in size, it certainly makes up for in charm.

Get on a boat! Book a catamaran for a day of snorkeling, deep sea diving, or simple cruising. The three- to four-hour cruises offer cocktails and lunch and show you around the incredible beaches and hidden gems between St. Kitts and Nevis. The trusty concierge service at Paradise Beach can hook you up with this, too.

Trip Highlight: This was my first official family vacation and it was totally magical. Putting Lila in the ocean and seeing her fall in love with the water was not just a trip highlight, it was a life highlight. I love the Caribbean. Each island I’ve been to has its own unique soul and energy. Of course, each one has beautiful beaches, but it’s the people that make a place. Most of our time was spent at Paradise Beach and everyone there was so completely lovely.

Could not Leave Home Without: All your go-to beachwear—a great swimsuit, cover-ups that double as dresses, a sun hat, flat sandals—and of course very chic looks for Lila, too.
