International prospective students who do not hold a valid residence permit in the state of Qatar (excluding GCC citizens) must fulfill one of the following criteria to be considered for admission to QU:

  • Paying Fee student (Study in QU Without scholarship): If the international prospective student is applying to study at his own expense, he must apply online for a student visa under Qatar University sponsorship and upload the Required Documents during the same admission timeline for international students.
  • Study in QU only when obtain a Scholarship: If the international prospective student is planning to study at Qatar University only when he obtains a scholarship provided by Qatar University, he does not need to fill out and complete the visa application.  The Scholarships and International Admissions Section will take the necessary procedures to issue a student visa for international students who receive a scholarship from Qatar University.

Note: The admission application from an international prospective student will not be considered if he does not include in one of the aforementioned category either by applying for student visa OR for a scholarship.

Scholarships and International Admissions Section assists eligible international students who are seeking student visa from QU in order to enroll in an academic program at Qatar University such as (undergraduate, graduate and Arabic program for Non-native Speakers) as a paying fee student. Those interested students should Apply Online for the student visa and upload the Required Documents during the same admission timeline for international students.

Steps on Applying for a Student Visa in Qatar

1. Submit Application for University Admission

Before you can apply for a student visa through the Qatar embassy or consulate in your home country, you will need to receive admission from a Qatar university. Some of the popular universities in the country for international students are:

  • Qatar University
  • Weil Cornell Medical College
  • Georgetown University
  • Northwestern University
  • Carnegie Mellon University

Most of the universities on the list are branches of US-based universities. After applying and receiving your admission letter from these universities, you can lodge your student visa application.

On the other hand, if you are looking to apply to Qatar University, you will need to process the visa application along with your university application. In addition to the requirements initially mentioned in this article, you need to prepare for the following:

Pro tip: If you apply for a Qatar University Scholarship, you don’t have to apply for a student visa. However, it is ideal to apply for a student visa in case you did not get the scholarship and want to continue at Qatar University as a fee-paying student.

2. Learn More About Student Visa Application through the Embassy

You can contact the Qatar embassy in your country to learn more about applying for a Qatar student visa or an educational residence visa.

3. Start Online Application through the Ministry of Interior (MOI)

To proceed with your online application, you need to visit the e-services website of the Ministry of Interior of Qatar. From there, make sure to choose the Visa Services options then click on “Issue Visa.” After that, click on Apply for Educational Residence Visa.

  • If you’re an undergraduate applicant, approval letter from your guardian to study at Qatar University and get a residence permit
  • Complete student declaration form

The visa application results with the admission result, making it more convenient for international students.

You’ll need to enter your information, such as:

  • Complete name
  • Birthdate and place
  • Phone number and address
  • Passport details

6. Print your E-Visa

Once your application is approved, go to the MOI website and print your student visa for Qatar. Similarly, the university where you applied for a visa will also send you an electronic visa that you can print for travel to Qatar.

7. Apply for a Resident Permit

Upon arrival in Qatar, ask for assistance from your host university regarding your resident permit. You have to two weeks to one month to apply for this, depending on your university. To complete your resident permit application, you will need to undergo:

Required Documents

Before completing the visa application form below, it is mandatory to check the following required documents and prepare them:

  1. Online Application Confirmation Page (which should be printed on a paper at the end of applying online, if you couldn’t print it out please print a web application summary and use it instead)
  2. Student’s passport copy, valid minimum for one year; need the page/s that have students name, Date of Birth, and Passport expiry date.
  3. Affidavit of Financial Sponsor to bear the costs of study at the university.The financial sponsor must be a third party, the students are not allowed to sponsor themselves.
  4. Copy of passport / Qatar ID card of the financial sponsor
  5. Financial documents that reflect the financial capacity of the sponsor to bear the financial expenses (study, living, etc.) of the student during his study at the university:
    • If financial sponsor lives in Qatar, student should submit a “Bank Guarantee” issued by a Qatar local bank in favor of Qatar University with the amount of 20,000 QR = $ 5470, valid for Five years for (Undergraduate & PhD Applicants), Three years for (Masters Applicants) and One year for (ANNS Applicants).
    • If Financial sponsor is from outside Qatar, student should submit the bank account statement of the financial sponsor for six months prior to the submission of the visa request. This document should reflect the financial capacity of the sponsor to bear the financial expenses (study, living, etc.) of the student during his study at the university:
  6. Health Evaluation: This form should be signed by a Medical Clinic/Hospital in applicant’s country. This Health Evaluation form is acceptable ONLY from applicants from outside Qatar who are not having a Qatar residence permit and applying to QU visa application.
  7. Certificate of “Good Conduct” or “Criminal Clearance” issued by the authority in charge of the student’s residence country.
  8. Approval letter from student’s parent or guardian to enroll the university to study and obtain a residence permit under QU residence sponsorship. (for Bachelor Degree students ONLY).
  9. Complete the “Student Declaration Form“.


  1. The University has the right to recognize some of the above conditions as insufficient, or to add extra conditions based on the student’s status.
  2. Apply online for the student visa and upload the required documents according to the timeline.
  3. The admission decision will be announced by QU Admission Department according to the admission timeline in each semester.
