Due to the Coronavirus outbreak, Slovenia, Slovenia alongside with the rest of the EU and Schengen Area members imposed an EU-wide entry ban on third-country citizens in mid-March 2020.

With an improved epidemiological situation in Slovenia, the EU and abroad, since July 17 Slovenia has reopened its borders for the residents of the following countries: Australia, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Rwanda, Singapore, Thailand, and Uruguay.

At the same time, third-country citizens coming for work and other essential purposes as listed below can enter the territory of Slovenia, given that they hold proof on the reasons of their intended entry:

• Daily & weekly cross-border workers holding an employment contract in one of EU/Schengen Area countries.
• Persons engaged in economic activities.
• Persons appointed abroad in the international transport sector.
• Those carrying out the transport of goods to or from Slovenia within 12 hours of entry.
• Persons transiting through Slovenia to another country within 12 hours of entry.
• Diplomatic passport holders.
• Members of protection and rescue services, healthcare services, the police and firefighting service and persons carrying out humanitarian transport for Slovenia, crossing the border in order to perform their duties.
• Persons who have scheduled doctor’s appointment or treatment/surgery in Slovenia or EU/Schengen member state.
• Those crossing the border on a daily basis or occasionally, for education and schooling or scientific research.
• Persons attending the funeral of a family member, leaving or returning to Slovenia within 24 hours of entry.
• Persons crossing the border for family reasons in order to maintain relations with close family members, who are returning within 24 hours of entry.
• Those crossing the border for urgent personal matters and returning within 24 hours of entry.
• Owners/tenants of land on both sides of the border, crossing the border to carry out an agricultural activity.
• Slovenian Army and Police staff members or employees of state authorities returning from their work abroad.

General required documents for a Slovenian Schengen Visa Application:

• Firstly, download the application form, fill it completely and with sincerity. You can also fill the Schengen Visa application form electronically and then print a hard-copy.

• Your passport and copies of your previous visas – valid for at least 3 months beyond return date – are required. Your passport must have at least two blank pages.
• A copy of your return-ticket reservation. It is not recommended to purchase the ticket before obtaining the visa – if not otherwise required
• Schengen Visa Insurance confirmation of minimum 30,000 € coverage within Slovenia and the entire Schengen area.
• A cover letter stating the purpose of visit to Slovenia and itinerary
