Do Indians need a visa for Singapore?

Yes, Indians do need a visa for Singapore. However, the rapid increase of tourists traveling to Singapore has made the process a lot easier and quicker.

The tourist visa issued by the embassy permits tourists for a maximum stay of 30 days and comes with a validity of 2 years. This is a multiple entry permit which means every time you travel to Singapore, you don’t have to apply for a visa!

The visa approval is based on some basic conditions that may include:

  • A valid passport with validity for 6 months to be owned by the Indian citizens from the date of arrival to Singapore.
  • Sufficient funds in your bank account of the passport holder during the period of stay in the country.

Every country has its own set of rules for visa processing. It is mandatory to furnish the credentials to get your approval for a visa application. Well in the case of Singapore, you should have documents like:

  • Indian Passport, valid for 6 months at least from the expected date of entry to Singapore.
  • If you have an old passport, enclose it also.
  • 2 recent passport size photographs of the dimension 35mm X45mm with 80% face close up, matte finish and white background. The color of the top you wear should be in contrast with white. One photograph to be pasted in the passport with the glue and signed across. While the second photo goes with the visa application form.
  • Air Tickets for both inward and outward journey.
  • Bank Statement of the last 3 months.
  • Visa Application Form-14 A.
  • Cover letter entailing details of the purpose of your visit to Singapore.

Visa Requirements

NOTE: All non-conventional travel documents, such as Titre de Voyages (TDV), or Certificates of Identities (COI) for stateless persons, will need to seek approval prior to applying for a visa, from the Singapore Overseas Mission in the country you are resident in. Countries or regions that do not require an Entry Visa

If your travel document is issued from a country or region that is not listed above (ie Australia), you do not require a visa. However, you must meet the entry requirements below before you can be considered for entry:

  • A passport that is valid for at least six months
  • Sufficient funds for the length of your intended stay
  • A submitted Electronic Arrival Card (Beta) or a completed Disembarkation/Embarkation Card (D/E Card)
  • A valid Singapore visa (to check whether you need a visa, see Visa Requirements)
  • A confirmed onward or return ticket (where applicable)
  • Evidence that you can enter your next destination (for example, a visa)
  • A Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate, if applicable

If you are eligible for entry, you will receive a Visit Pass which will indicate the period of stay granted. Check your Visit Pass and the number of days you can stay before leaving the checkpoint.

While in Singapore, on a visit pass, you are not permitted to engage in any business, professional or paid employment activities.

Applying for an Entry Visa in Australia

If you require a visa and are applying in Australia, you are advised to apply for an entry visa within 30 days prior to arrival in Singapore. You also must meet the entry requirements as above.

You may apply in three ways:

  • Online, submitted by a Local Contact (a Singapore citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident who you know). Your Local Contact may submit a visa application on your behalf online using the e-Service. Your Local Contact will require a Singpass to use the service. A visa fee of SGD30.00 will be charged to your Local Contact. 
  • In person at one of 5 authorised visa centres in Australia (Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane or Adelaide). Our authorised visa agent is VFS Australia Pty Ltd. Please visit www.vfsglobal.com/singapore/australia to book an appointment online and download the relevant required documents. Please note applications made via our Authorised Visa Agent will incur a service fee of AUD71.50 in addition to the visa fee of AUD31.00. 
  • In person at the Singapore High Commission in Canberra. Appointments are required. Please make your appointment via the online form here. Please note the following items required when you present yourself in person:
    1. Completed application form* (Form 14A). Download here.
    2. Your recent passport-sized colour photograph taken against a white background within the last three months. Please see Photo Guidelines for information on photo requirements.
    3. Present your original passport in person, as well as provide a photocopy of the biodata page and signature page of the passport.
    4. A printout of your VEVO as evidence of your valid visa entitling you to stay in Australia. The link to the VEVO is here.
    5. Confirmed or tentative flight and hotel/accommodation bookings, or a cover letter.
    6. (if you require a Letter of Introduction – V39A form) Some countries require a V39A form filled.     7. (for PRC citizens) Photocopy of PRC ID card.

How to apply for a Singapore Tourist Visa from India?

The procedure to apply for the Singapore Tourist Visa from India is simple and it follows like:

  • Download the Singapore Tourist Visa form (14-A) online and fill in the details carefully.
  • Make sure that your passport has validity as specified.
  • Make sure you have the air tickets to be enclosed with the visa application.
  • A covering letter by the applicant stating the reason, date, and places of travel. The letter should be addressed to “The Embassy of Singapore”.
  • Submit the income tax papers and bank statement of last 3 years especially if you are a first-time traveler.
  • Produce address proof. If the place where you reside has a different address from the one mentioned in the passport, then the proofs for both will be needed.
  • Attach the confirmed booking of the hotels in Singapore.
  • After you have submitted all the documents either in person or online, pay the fees for the visa.

You can then wait for the visa processing and till the time you receive any confirmation. Once you receive the visa, Singapore is not really far.

It would take about 3-4 days in order to get the Singapore Tourist Visa. But be wise and apply at least 7 days before, considering all of them to be working days, your travel.
