Places to go on vacation in indiana

Indiana is the perfect place to go on vacation. It’s right in the middle of the United States and has everything you’d want in a vacation spot: beaches, mountains, farmland, cities, and more.

If you’re looking for a relaxing beach vacation, head to Indiana Beach Amusement Park in Lake Shafer. You can ride roller coasters, eat at their restaurants, play games like laser tag or mini golf, or just relax on one of the many beaches. There’s even an arcade and water park!

If you’re looking for something more adventurous, you might want to try hiking through Brown County State Park near Nashville. You’ll find trails ranging from easy to difficult—and even if you don’t like hiking (or if it’s too cold outside), there are plenty of other activities available: fishing, swimming in one of two lakes (including one with an island), canoeing/kayaking or tubing down the river (depending on your group size), picnicking at one of three pavilions (with grills available) and playing basketball or volleyball courts (depending on availability).

Indianapolis, with a plethora of superb family-approved activities, is by far one of the best places to visit in Indiana with kids. 

Indianapolis offers families a world of urban fun, with an eclectic collection of fascinating and educational attractions. Start your vacation with a pit stop at the informative and colorful Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. 

And, while there, spend some time exploring the other family favorites, including Indianapolis Zoo, Conner Prairie and Rhythm Discovery Center. 

Evansville 

From a zoo to museums, Evansville features some of the best fun things to do in Indiana with kids.  Evansville has an outstanding mix of outdoor, art and historic activities. Even better, the city has no shortage of kid-approved attractions.

Our favorites include the Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden and Children’s Museum, which boasts more than 20,000 square feet of displays. 

Big Splash Adventure Hotel and Indoor Water Park

Big Splash Adventure offers a cheap family vacation for families who are into wet and wild adventures.  With a full indoor water park, Big Splash Adventure Hotel is ideal for families aching for some splashy fun. Indiana Dunes

For decades, this state park has been wowing travelers and families with its extraordinary natural terrain.  With prairie areas, ponds, wetlands and sand dunes, this state park offers a unique experience for the whole gang.

You may unplug your daily stress and commune with nature with the park’s 15-mile coastline and 70 miles of hiking trails.  The park also is home to more than 300 migratory bird species. And as a bonus, the park provides easy access to numerous family vacations near Indiana.  

Fort Wayne

There’s no shortage of age-friendly things to do and family-friendly places to go in Fort Wayne. Fort Wayne lures families with an assortment of educational attractions and historical wonders. For one, you can spark your children’s imagination at one of their several museums, like Science Central. 

Other family favorites include the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory, Children’s Zoo and Fort Wayne Firefighters Museum. 

Oakwood Resort

Columbus

No list of the most exciting family trips in Indiana is complete without Bloomington.  Bloomington has all the hallmarks of an action-packed family vacation in Indiana. Not only does it feature stunning scenery, but it also has lakes, parks and historic buildings. Our favorite attraction is the extremely educational Wonderland Museum of Science, Health and Technology.
