Overstay Fines

Overstay fines are charges when you overstay the visa on arrival, tourist visa or residence visa cancellation period. You can click on our handy page, Check your visa expiry page now and use it as a guide to see if you have any overstay fine.

*Note that if you are from a Schengen country with a multiple entry visa, the expiry date shown is only the expiry date of your multiple entry visa period and doesn’t indicate if you are in Overstay status or not.

Tourist Overstay Fines are 255 AED on the first day then 100AED per day, same for on arrival visas.

Cancelled Residence visa Overstays are 155 AED on the first day then 25AED per day for all Cancelled Residence visa overstays.

Additionally a 100AED service fee applies plus 30AED typing fees each day there is a fine.
Charges are explained on the Government site here:https://u.ae/en/information-and-services/visa-and-emirates-id/visa-fees/overstaying-your-visa

TIP: The majority of our customers find it much easier to pay us to sort out the overstay fine and not to do it through Amer. Better still, apply 1 week before your visa expires and then you wont receive a fine!

Alternatively visit an Amer Immigration centre to pay the overstay fine yourself and then send us the fine clearance paper to save paying us the 100AED service fee. Fines should be cleared early morning and then the fine clearance paper sent to us by WhatsApp so we can then apply on the same day. If you do not send us the fine clearance paper in the morning, the overstay fine will be processed the next day and a new fine will be due again, usually 155AED+30AED typing fee. When an overstay fine is cleared and we apply for a visa, the visa may be issued on the same day, or it may take longer. Overstay fines occur until the visa is issued and do not stop because you have applied for a visa, or because you have cleared an initial fine.

Visa approval time depends solely on UAE immigration and Go Tours nor anyone else, has any magic button to push the immigration staff to hurry up your particular visa application.

Cancelled Visa Overstay Fine

Visitors overstaying in the UAE must pay fines for the number of extra days after visa expiry and need to obtain an out pass or leave permit at the airports or the immigration office at the land borders.

A customer service representative at the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) Dubai confirmed that anyone overstaying in the country should obtain an outpass or leave permit at the airport or immigration offices at the land borders.

This permit can also be obtained at the Al Awir Immigration office. An overstaying visitor should also pay fines for the number of days they extended their stay in the country.

According to travel industry experts, this process started a few days ago. Many of their clients who overstayed in the country had to acquire the permit by paying Dh200 to Dh300 before exiting.

Mir Wasim Raja, manager of MICE & Holidays at Galadari International Travel Services, said, “An outpass or leave permit is required for those visitors who continue to reside in the country after visa expiry or after the grace period offered by the emirates.”

According to a travel industry expert, Dubai visit visa holders get a grace period of 10 days from the date of visa expiry

Ranjit Routray, an Indian national, was on a two-month visit to the UAE but had to extend his stay for two days due to personal engagements. His brother-in-law, Jubin, had cleared his overstay fine online. “But when we were at the immigration, I was asked to pay the ‘leave permit’ for overstaying in the country and pay Dh240 fine,” said Jubin.

Many other visitors have been obtaining a leave permit for overstaying and exiting the country. “Without our knowledge, a few of our clients overstayed their specified period of stay on their visa. When their visa expired, they contacted us to pay the overstay fines. But they did not know the out pass or leave permit,” said Deepak Kaushik, marketing manager Rooh Travel and Tourism.

“At the airport and land borders, they had to pay for the number of days overstayed and for leave permit,” added Kaushik.

Robin Pathrose, sales manager at Kingsland Travel and Tourism LLC, said that once an outpass is obtained, the visitor must exit the country. “One of my clients arrived in the UAE on a visit visa and managed to secure a job here. He was already overstaying in the country and had even applied for a leave permit at the Al Awir Immigration centre, which he forgot about,” said Pathrose.

“His employer applied for the work permit and permanent residency status as much as four times. But it was not approved by the authorities. When we inquired about the reason for rejection, we were told that he must exit the country as the leave permit has been issued against his name,” said Pathrose.

Is it criminal?

In UK, overstaying without a valid reason is a criminal offence under section 24 of the Immigration Act 1971. In UAE, there is no law that says overstaying a visitor’s visa or expired residence visa is a criminal offence. Most of the visit visa holders and cancelled residence visa holders overstay due to reasons like flight cancellations (Now due to corona), delays in processing new visa or employment visa. In most cases the average period of overstaying is between 5 to 15 days. In certain cases, Asian visitors have been scammed into believing that their visit visa is an employment visa resulting in them overstaying for many months. In such an instance, it is regarded as a criminal offence and the individual will be deported upon getting caught. As UAE practices many humanitarian acts, once every one or two years, The UAE visa amnesty requests all individuals who are overstaying to exit the country and waive off their overstaying fines.

Overstaying affect my re-entry?

We have heard news that overstaying for more than 1 to 2 months could affect any prospective employment opportunities. There are no laws confirmed about how overstaying will affect a visitor’s or resident’s next re-entry. In our experience some individuals who had overstayed and re applied for a new visa were approved while some were rejected. This decision is solely reliant on the Immigration departments’ security team.
