St Stephen’s Church
Dating back to the 19th century, this fabulous pale-yellow architectural masterpiece was constructed under the rule of British empire in 1829. One of the prominent features of the church is the timber used and the main beam, which is said to be brought from the Palace of Tipu Sultan at Srirangapatna.
Some of the major highlights of St Stephen’s Church that allures tourists from all parts of the world are the paintings of “The Last Supper”, “Mother Mary holding baby Jesus in her arms” and the “crucifixion of Christ” reflected on the stained glass windows. Ooty Botanical Garden
A must-visit for in Ooty in summer vacation for sightseeing and photography. Botanical Garden is a sprawling beauty spread across 55-hectare with the panoramic views of the Doddabetta peak in the background. Established in the year of 1897, this horticulture park features more than 1000+ species of exotic plants, shrubs, ferns, bonsai and herbal plants.
Ponds with eye-catching lilies, orchids and beds of flowers arranged according to Italian style makes this place ideal for short rejuvenation and is a favourite among holiday seekers during weekends.
Doddabetta Peak
Located just 10 km from Ooty bus stop, Doddabetta is South India’s highest mountain peak at a height of 2,623 meters (8650 feet). The jaw dropping views of the forests of Bandipur National Park, Chamundi Hills and the whole district from the summit will leave you stunned. Quite popular among adventure seekers, nature lovers and travellers alike, Doddabetta is a perfect getaway during summer in Ooty.
The commanding views of the Nilgiris from atop on a clear day are a visual treat to the eyes. There are many low-challenging trekking & hiking trails at Doddabetta peak for avid trekkers looking for an adventure with friends.
Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary
Located just 2 km from the Nilgiris District, this national park is a breeding ground for animals like wild boar, panthers, tigers, barking deer, gaur and many more. Also regarded as Tiger Reserve, this wildlife sanctuary is a wonderful scenic place spread across 32,155 hectares. One can also spot birds like Grey Jungle Fowl, Brown Dove, Malabar Whistling Thrush, Bulbuls, peacocks and many more playing in their natural habitat.
Established in 1940, Mudumalai was the foremost sanctuary in Southern India. Besides spotting the wildlife species, tourists can also spend some peaceful moment at Mayar waterfalls located within the premises or feed the elephants present at the Theppakadu Elephant camp.
Elk Hill Murugan Temple
Perched on top of the Elk Hill, this beautiful Murugan Temple sited in the resplendent settings with picturesque backdrop. Dedicated to Lord Muruga, this Hindu temple located amidst gorgeous landscape, boasts rich bounteous nature and flourishing wildlife. The calm atmosphere and scenic beauty of this place makes absolutely perfect place for yoga practices and meditation.
The highlight of this temple is the 40 feet tall brick and mortar statue of Lord Muruga that stands outside the enclosure of the shrine. There are also idols of Lord Shiva, Goddess Shakthi, Lord Ganesha, Navagrahas, and Nava Kanika within the temple premises.
Wax World Museum
A great alternative to seeing the natural valleys and mountains while on your summer vacation in Ooty is to visit the Wax World Museum. The museum is housed in a 130-year old Colonial Mansion proximate to the center of town and Ooty Lake. The museum features a number of look-alike, life-size statues of wax of famous Indian personalities from history, heritage and culture. Tour to this informative and enjoyable museum is worth spending time, especially for kids.
Avalanche Lake
This place is located at a distance of 28 kms away from Ooty and considered to be one of the best places to enjoy Ooty in summer. Surrounded by the lush-greenery and the amazing landscapes, this place is one of a kind. The creation of the lake happened after a massive landslide around the time of the 1800’s hence the name of the lake is Avalanche. The place is particularly famous for trout fishing and the essential equipment for this can be found at the Trout hatchery. Alongside this the place is also known for other activities like camping, rafting and trekking.
