If you are an Australian permanent resident, you must hold an NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority) before you travel. Australian citizens can travel without one.

If you are an Australian citizen or permanent resident you do not send requests for travel.

You may need one, but only when bringing family who are not Australian citizens or permanent residents. 

Bringing family who are not Australian citizens or permanent residents

If your family are not Australian citizens or permanent residents and they do not hold a work or student visa, the 2 options for bringing them are either they:

  • send a Request for Travel. If their reason for travel is they are a partner or dependent of a New Zealand resident visa holder, they must send the form after you, the Australian principal applicant, are in New Zealand. Their visa must be granted before they can travel to New Zealand.
  • come to New Zealand as either a visa waiver national or Visitor Visa holder.
