Military Vacation In Hawaii
The military can often be a challenge. Between the frequent PCS moves, long hours, and tougher than average job, it makes sense that those within the service may look forward to vacations more than the average person. Hawaii is widely agreed upon to be the best US destination for a short-term vacation. It is relatively affordable, especially compared to other destinations across the globe like Europe, Asia, or South America.
There are many destinations in which you can take a military vacation. Many people go with one of the major ones, such as Las Vegas or New York City. However, those aren’t the only places you can visit while having a military vacation.
Military Hotel Hawaii Big Island
Military families often have to travel far distances to reach their loved one and go through many red tape before they can actually come in and see Hawaii.

Christmas in Honolulu
Sixth trip to Hale Koa and it was again: excellent, clean, well maintained. Buffet breakfast is recommended. New faux wood floors looked good and can be kept much cleaner than carpets esp with shoes tracking in beach sand. New pool design is a delight and pool staff seemed courteous and efficient. Bibas dinner menu was extensive and we enjoyed four dinners there. The grounds were kept very well. Hotel desk staff and room attendants were efficient and pleasant. A delightful experience once again.

Not a great hotel for kids under 48 inches
Pool staff would not let our 47 inch almost 6 year old daughter go down the slide. She prepared for the swim test under one set of rules but then they communicated different rules at the time of the test. They were not encouraging of her efforts. Our 7 year old was just fine but this made our stay very difficult for our younger daughter. Grounds are lovely and room cleaning was great.

Things have changed in a year.
Room quality has gone way down. The cheap laminate flooring gives an upgraded water front room a Motel-6 feel. It was much more comfortable with the carpeting. Trying to save money and still charging service members $400 a night is more a disservice. We’ve stayed in these ocean front rooms many times prior, this is the first time the Hali Koa has really disappointed. Even the Christmas decorations have gone downhill. They used to have a nice Xmas display and now its like a strip mall. Next time, we’ll stay elsewhere. Can no longer recommend this one.

Worst Hotel Experience Ever
My family just PCSd to Hawaii. We have been staying in hotels for approximately 90 days. We were in the Doubletree around the corner and thought for our last week before moving into our new home we would move for a better pool experience for the kids. Biggest mistake ever. The hotel staff not nearly as friendly. Ridiculous swim test for kids under five. No visitors allowed. Pool closes at 5 PM every day except for Friday and Saturday, such a waste. We had a mini fridge so we could keep a full size gallon of milk for the kids. While I completely understand it was against the rules, shame on us. But there is a smaller fridge in the room already, but in the bathroom, Gross. We asked if we could just unplug it and move it to the patio since we don’t really have a place to put it,…

Unprofessional pool staff!
The pool staff is completely unprofessional and do not seem to enjoy their job in the slightest bit. The attitude of the pool staff ruined the atmosphere for my family and I during our trip. One of the staff by the name of Pamela was very rude to my family and I when trying to file a legitimate hospitality complaint. I can get over elevator renovation and longer wait times but being disrespected by staff should never happen on a vacation. The hotel was a great deal in comparison to many others in the area, but it would have been worth it to pay more and be treated with respect by the staff. I expected more for veterans and their families.

Waikiki at it’s best.
A fantastic military hotel right on Waikiki beach! Prices are perfect for active and retired military families with a wide array of attractions to visit. Fresh water pool next to beach area and multiple restaurants.

Disappointment This Time Around – Especially Regarding the Pool
Stayed at Hale Koa from 27 October thru 6 November (for son’s wedding in Hawaii). My family stayed in several rooms during this time. Ages ranged from 4 years to 67 years. (Critique Nr 1): Very slow elevators. Of the four elevators, only three were operational, and they were ALL very slow. In fact, speaking of slow, the elevator in the Hale Koa parking garage was EXTREMELY, RIDICULOUSLY slow!!! When it arrived at the destination floor, it took longer for the doors to open than it did for the entire ride from originating floor to destination floor. It may take 10 seconds to transit from 1st floor to roof of the parking garage, then another 20-30 seconds for the doors to actually open!!! But, in terms of the hotel elevators, it is very common to have the elevator full due…

The cleanest and friendliest resort we’ve ever stayed in!
Stayed for almost 10 days in October/November. Exceeded our expectations. Great Aloha spirit from staff. Hotel and grounds were exceptionally clean. Very beautiful landscaping! We already made reservations to go back next year. Went to Kauai after we left the Hale Kia. Nobody compared to the staff’s eagerness to help at the Hale Kia!

Just the best!!
This was our fourth visit to this property. We constantly meet other military folk who come here year after year, and we can see why. It’s the people who make this place fly. So kind and so outgoing. And we were lucky enough to have a room in the newly renovated Ilima Tower. The laminate floors are SO much better than the previous nasty carpet. We can’t wait to come back!!

Family vacation
Hale Koa was the best hotel to stay at in Waikiki. It was located walking distance to most everything, had restaurant options s to choose from, an outdoor bar w/entertainment. Plus their pool had are for little tykes, and a couple adult pools. The beach was awesome with rentals from chairs, umbrellas, snorkel gear, kayaks and paddle boards. I highly recommend Hale Koa for military families and friends. We were guests of military family members.
