The Indian government introduced an electronic travel authorization system in 2014 which since has been extended to citizens of 166 countries around the world. This measure allows the citizens of these countries to easily apply for and obtain an Indian eVisa online without needing them to visit a local Indian embassy or consulate.

Do Philippine Passport Holders Need a Visa for India?

Currently, all foreign nationals traveling to India need a visa in order to visit the country. Travelers can select from a range of different eVisa types offered by the Indian government depending on the specific reasons for their visit to the country.

Filipino citizens interested in traveling to India for tourism can apply for an Indian eTourist visa. Those interested in traveling for Business endeavors can apply for a eBusiness Visa and those seeking medical treatment can apply for a eMedical Visa.

Necessary Documents and Eligibility Requirements for Filipino Applicants of Indian eVisa

Before beginning the application process, travelers will have to go through a checklist of required documents and eligibility requirements in order to make sure that their Indian eTourist visa application will be successful. Regardless of visa-type being applied for, travelers will need to have the following:

  • A valid email address,
  • A valid debit/credit card
  • A valid passport

Furthermore, travelers will have to consider the following eligibility requirements before beginning the application process:

  • Ensuring that the traveler’s passport will be valid for at least 6 months after his/her arrival in India
  • Ensuring that the traveler’s passport will have at least two blank pages where entry and exit stamps can be placed
  • The maximum length of stay on an Indian eTourist visa is 90-days for Filipino citizens
  • The eTourist visa cannot be converted into other types of visas
  • The eTourist visa is also not extendable, meaning that the maximum length of stay cannot be exceeded during the traveler’s visit to the country.
  • Ensuring that each person has his/her own passport irrespective of their age.
  • Parents cannot list their children on their eVisa application
  • Travelers will have to carry the approved copy of their eTourist visa at all times during their stay in India
  • The eVisa cannot be used to visit protected/restricted areas or cantonment sites
  • Travelers holding a diplomatic passport or those with International Travel Documents cannot apply for an Indian eVisa
  • Travelers can apply for the eVisa a maximum of 2 times during any given year
  • Travelers must have a return ticket or a ticket for onward travel before filling out the online application

The Indian eVisa allows the traveler to enter India through one of the 28 designated airports and 5 seaports. The exit can be planned from any of the authorized Immigration Check Posts.  If the traveler plans to enter the country by land or by sea, he/she will be required to obtain a visa from a local embassy or consulate prior to his/her arrival in the country.

India eVisa Application Process for Filipino Citizens

After the traveler has ensured that he/she fulfils the pre-requisites needed to apply for the Indian eVisa, the traveler can then begin the application process by accessing the India Visa Application page. On the webpage will be a link that opens up the online eVisa application form that the traveler can fill out. This form will ask the traveler to list some personal details such as Full Name, Date and Place of Birth, Citizenship, Address and Contact Information as well as some passport details.

Applicants may also be required to provide additional information such as his/her Marital Status, Religion, Educational Qualifications, Visible Identification Marks, Expected Port of Entry and Exit, Travel Details, Countries Visited in the Last 10 years, Occupation etc.

The applicant might even be asked to answer certain security questions as well in a scenario-based yes/no format. The applicants will be expected to answer these questions truthfully and honestly to be granted entry into India.

In order to complete the application, the applicant will need to pay a processing fee via a valid debit/credit card. This completes the application process as after that the applicant can review the information and submit the application.
