Since the implementation of the Indian electronic visa (e-visa) in 2014, the process of experiencing this impressive country has become so much simpler for citizens of 166 countries, including Hongkongers.

The India visa for Hong Kong citizens is an electronic visa which can be obtained online by filling in the application form that does not take longer than 15 minutes to complete. The processing time and approval of the visa application can be expected within 2 to 4 business days.

It has eliminated the hassle of setting appointments with embassies or consulates, attending meetings, and waiting for long weeks for approval. In addition, it functions smoother than obtaining visas upon arrival, which involve long waiting queues at airports.

Do Hong Kong Passport Holders Need a Visa for India?

Hong Kong passport holders are required to apply for an Indian eVisa before departure. Depending on the purpose of visit, it is possible to apply for the India tourist visa for Hong Kongers, which is valid for 1 year, offers double entry, and supports stays of 90 days at a time for touristic purposes only.

To get an Indian tourist visa, Hongkongers must gather and submit a few required documents at the time of application.

• Passport, at least six months of remaining validity from the date of intended arrival
• Two blank passport pages for stamps
• Return plane ticket or onward journey ticket
• Proof of sufficient financial means during the stay in India
• Scanned bio page of passport showing clear photography and personal details (name, date of birth, nationality, expiry date, etc.)
• Debit or credit card for the visa fee payment
• Recent front facing photograph with a white background
• Valid email address

The scanned bio page of the passport must comply with the following specifications:

• PDF format
• Size from a minimum of 10 KB to a maximum of 300 KB

The specifications to adhere to when attaching the digital photograph are as follows:

• White background
• Clear full face, centered, eyes open, front view
• No borders
• Height and width must be equal
• JPEG Format
• A minimum size of 10 KB up to a maximum of 1 MB

In case of travelers coming from affected countries, a Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate must also be attached as proof of vaccination.

How Long Does It Take to Get an Indian Visa from Hong Kong?

In general, it does not take longer than 2 to 4 business days to get the India eVisa. However, if there are mistakes in the application form or any of the required documents are missing, the process will take longer or in some cases may even risk rejection.

For this reason, all applicants are advised to double-check the information provided before submitting, in order to eliminate any unsatisfactory results.

How Can Citizens of Hong Kong Apply for an Indian Visa?

To apply for the India visa from Hong Kong travelers must begin by filling in the online application form, which contains basic personal questions, passport questions, security, and itinerary questions. Then, applicants must attach the required documents and complete the online visa fee payment through a valid debit or credit card. This whole process must be completed at least 4 days prior to the intended trip to allow sufficient time during processing.

Once the visa is approved, it will be sent to the applicant’s email address, which must be printed and brought with you to the airport for passport control upon landing. It is advisable to keep a copy of the approved visa at all times during the stay in India.
