Dubai is a home-made business city that has been developed over many years. Businessmen, investing individuals, artists, writers and creative designers want to form a part of this new urbanized city of Dubai. However, the requirements and conditions are very tough to achieve and high fees need to be paid. To benefit from Dubai, one has to take the advantage of all its economic facilities; one of those facilities is a Dubai visa for US citizens.

Dubai has a special visa called the Dubai Business Visa. This is one of the most powerful tools you can use to enter the Dubai market because it allows you to bring key staff members, do business, and reap the benefits of being a tourist all at once. There are even certain visas for companies or individuals as well. You will be able to obtain a visa for every visit within 30 days but if your visit is extended after that period, you will have to leave and come back. Now let me break down some caveats of this visa so that you can determine if this visa is designed for you.

One of the most common questions that I get as a United States citizen, who owns a UAE-based company is: Can I do business in Dubai? The answer is: Yes. However, there are several prerequisites that you need to fulfill. One of them is being a citizen of a Country. A popular misconception among those who are not familiar with the UAE is that it is permitted to be have a start-up in Dubai ( or any other Emirate ) if you are not a citizen of the Emirates. That’s not true! You need to acquire some sort of residency status in order to engage in business activities in the Emirate of Dubai ( or any other Emirate ).

Visa Requirements for US Diplomats and Officials

To apply for a visa, please submit the following:

  1. A complete application form with photo attached.
  2. An original passport (should not expire within six (6) months from the expected time of arrival to UAE).
  3. A colored photo size (2×2 inches) with white background.
  4. An original cover letter from one of the US departments that includes information about the trip, the traveler, and the expected departure date.
  5. A colored copy of the passport and the application with photo attached.

Note:

  1. All application forms must be typed.
  2. The applicant must be inside the U.S. during the visa process.
  3. The visa is a multiple-entry visa, valid for five (5) years, with a maximum stay of (180) days each entry.
  4. If you change your passport to the same type, please carry the old passport that containing a valid visa with the recent passport and no need to apply for a new visa.
  5. All visas require prior approval from the UAE authorities, so the visa process will take around 3 working days.
  6. If you are sending the visa package through the mail, please include a prepaid self-addressed envelope with a tracking number.

Visa Requirements for Non-US Citizens (regular passport only).

If you are a citizen of one of the following countries, visa is available upon arrival only.

Please make sure to have the following before departure:

  1. An original passport (should not expire within six (6) months from the expected time of arrival to UAE). 
  2. A round-trip airline ticket or confirmed ticket to another destination.

Indian citizens

  1. All Indian citizens holding U.S. visas, green cards, U.K Resident Permits, or EU resident permits can receive entry visa upon arrival to UAE valid for 14 days for a charge of AED 100.
  2. They have the option to extend their stay only once for an additional 14 days for AED250.
  3. All documents must be valid for at least six months from the expected time of arrival to UAE).

If you are not one of the above nationalities, please observe the following:

  1. The Embassy does not issue visit, work, tourist, or transit visas for ordinary/tourist passport.
  2. Visit Visa processed inside UAE through your sponsor (host) and make sure to receive a copy of the visa from the sponsor (host) before departure.
  3. Tourist Visa processed by visa agents or Hotels in the UAE and make sure to receive a copy of this visa from them before traveling to the United Arab Emirates.
  4. Transit Visa (96 hours) issued by the airlines (Fly Emirates or Etihad Airways) and you should contact the airline company that will fly you to the UAE and enquire about the possibility of traveling to the UAE without a prior visa or ask them also for a visit or tourist visa. Make sure to receive a copy of the visa before traveling to the United Arab Emirates.
