The United Kingdom Tuberculosis Detection Programme (UKTBDP) involves the pre-departure testing of
tuberculosis (TB) for individuals who intend to apply for a UK visa for longer than six (6) months. The UK
Government designated the Migration Health Department of the International Organization for Migration
(IOM) to conduct the screening of applicants and issuance of certificates according to the UK Department of
Health Protocol.


Local information for tuberculosis testing
All persons submitting visa applications in Ghana, including applicants from Togo, Niger, Cote d’Ivoire and
Burkina Faso, who intend to go to the United Kingdom for a period longer than six months, will need to
obtain a certificate confirming that they are free from infectious tuberculosis (TB) before submitting their
visa application. The categories of applicants that will be affected by this new requirement include longterm students, work permit holders, other employment and domestic workers, volunteer workers (plus all
dependents of the aforementioned), and all settlement and marriage cases. Please note that applications will
not be accepted from those who fail to submit a certificate.

identified.

The following are exempted from the TB testing requirement:
• All diplomatic passport holders being posted to the United Kingdom;
• All children aged under 11 years;
• All returning residents.
Requirements for TB testing:
• Two (2) passport size pictures
• Original national passport
• Photocopy of the national passport (Bio-data page)
• Applicants travelling with children below 11 years should produce a photocopy of the Bio-data
page of national passport and/ or birth certificate of the children
• Photocopy of resident permit for other nationals resident in Ghana
• Photocopy of resident permit for other nationals resident in Togo, Niger, Cote d’Ivoire and Burkina
Faso and Liberia
• Applicants must give their consent to IOM to conduct the TB test by signing a Consent Form (see
page 8).
Attendance is by appointment and the full test fee is USD 75 (payable in USD or GHS equivalent).
