Colonial Beach is a small town on the northern tip of Virginia Beach. It’s just over an hour away from Washington, D.C., but it feels like you’re in another world—a world where everyone knows everyone and everyone loves the beach.

The town has a number of interesting things to do, but perhaps the best way to experience Colonial Beach is to spend a day at the beach, whether that means swimming in the ocean or building sand castles with your family. If you’re looking for something more active, you can explore one of the many hiking trails around town or rent a boat and head out into the Chesapeake Bay. You’ll find plenty of restaurants and shops in Colonial Beach as well, so don’t worry about having to leave!

Colonial Beach, Virginia is a small town located on the Chesapeake Bay. It was founded in 1884, and today it is home to around 2,200 residents. The town’s economy is largely based on tourism, with many visitors coming for the nearby beaches and other outdoor activities.

4.2/5 Very Good! (1,000 reviews)

This is a beautiful hotel. It is clean and has a great breakfast. The rooms are spacious. The bed was comfortable. The only complaint I have was the shocking rudeness from the man who checked me in. It was sad because everyone else I interacted with was polite and kind and I would give 5 stars to everything else about the hotel. That employee should NOT be working at the front desk. I’ve stayed at thousands of hotels and never been treated so rudely. He spoke too softly behind his mask for me to hear him and then acted annoyed when I asked him to repeat himself. He was annoyed when I asked when and where breakfast was served. He was annoyed when I was trying to decide what rate I needed for parking. He did take a lot of time to explicitly explain to me that though I gave him my Hilton number I would not receive any Hilton rewards because I had booked through a third party and “not been loyal to Hilton.” Everything about this hotel is wonderful, including dozens of other employees with whom I interfaced, but this is not the way you want guests welcomed to your hotel.

Liked that it was close to my destination. The bathroom door frame had blood on it!! Didn’t like that we had to pay for parking, still think that’s insane!

The location is excellent, we walked to the White House and the Lincoln Memorial. Train station a few blocks away. Bikes and umbrellas are provided at no charge. The rooms are spacious with a large bathroom. Air conditioning worked well and no hot water issues. The staff was very friendly. I would stay here again.

4.7/5 Exceptional! (507 reviews)

My girlfriend and I stayed the weekend to see the history monuments, museums, and hit the town for a much needed vacation. The Riggs was extremely complimentary, clean, professional, and beautiful. From beautiful art, decor to comfortable towels and beds; the Riggs definitely complimented our stay in D.C. All the staff and workers were extremely welcoming, professional, and accommodating to anything. The front desk offered a complimentary drink our first night at the Cafe; both the drink and atmosphere of the hotel was comfortable and elegant. Definitely will recommend this stay to anyone and, if back in D.C., would like to come back!
