School Holidays In China 2022
China is a large nation with an abundance of natural resources, which makes it home to some of the world’s largest and most influential companies. Traveling to China can be an awesome experience, but don’t forget to plan for Chinese summer vacation dates. This article will provide you with everything you need to know about Chinese summer vacation dates.
Traveling to China in the summer means long holiday! The dates and duration of the holidays will vary depending on where you are in China.
China’s school year is the same as in most other countries: It runs from late September to the end of June.
However, there are a few differences from the usual summer vacation schedule, in order to comply with China’s policy of “one month off every three years.” The summer vacation for Chinese students usually lasts about two weeks and begins on July 8.
The vacation dates for 2019 were announced by the Ministry of Education. The holiday will start on July 8 and end on July 18. During this time, children will not be required to attend school or take any tests.

Meaning of each holiday:
11 – 17 February – Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year is a public holiday in many countries across East Asia. Chinese Lunar Year usually takes place at sunset on the day of the second New Moon following the winter solstice, which takes place on the 21 December. The Lunar New Year can fall on any day between 21 January until 21 February.
3 – 5 April – Qingming Festival
The Qingming Festival usually takes place on either the 4th or 5th of April each year. It is known as the Tomb-Sweeping Day where people gather to pay respect to their ancestors or departed loved ones while also appreciating the spring weather.
12 – 14 June – Dragon Boat Festival
The Dragon Boat Festival falls on the 5th day of the fifth lunar month each year. The festival is also known as the Duanwu Festival. It is a day to commemorate Qu Yuan, a Chinese poet who specialises in patriotic poems while also warding off evil spirits by practicing certain rituals. Aside from that, the dragon boat race takes place and many people attend this race. During the festival, people eat sticky rice dumplings known as Zongzi.
19 – 21 September – Mid-Autumn Festival
The Mid-Autumn Festival takes place on the 15th day of the eight lunar month each year. This festival is also called the Moon Festival or the Mooncake Festival. People decorate their house with lanterns, gather with family and friends for dinner, watch the moon and eat mooncakes during the festival.
1 – 7 October – National Day
Also known as the Golden Week, people in China have a week of holiday in the first week of October annually. The National Day takes place to remember the day the People’s Republic of China was founded in 1 October 1949.
China School Year Calendar and Term Dates
In China, the school term usually starts in September of each year. Then, the Winter holiday usually takes place at the end of January until early February. These dates vary depending on the date of the Lunar New Year of that particular year as it usually takes place 15 days before and after the Lunar New Year. The Summer School Holiday takes place early July and ends late August.

China Golden Week 2022
China National Day, Spring Festival and Labor Day holidays are three ‘golden weeks’ in China. They are the three longest holidays in China: 7 days off each for China National Day and the Spring Festival, and 5 days for Labor Day.
Long holidays boost the tourism industry. Prices of flights and hotel rooms soar during the ‘golden weeks’ — hence their name. Crowds are expected at popular tourism spots. If you are planning a trip during a ‘golden week’, we recommend booking in advance and choosing less-traveled destinations.

Chinese New Year is the biggest holiday in China. Chinese people have seven days off, and some may have 15 days off. Most establishments close for up to a week, except for some in the service sector, such as hotels and large restaurants.
2. Do businesses keep running during China public holidays?
Government offices and banks are shut, but they will usually have some staff on duty.
Some businesses will keep running during the holidays. Most large malls, tourist attractions, public transport, hotels, and restaurants will open as usual, or even stay open longer.
3. How long are public holidays in China?
In total, Chinese mainland has 13 statutory days off for public holidays not counting Saturdays and Sundays: four 3-day holidays, one 5-day holiday, and two 7-day holidays.

- 5-day public holiday: Labor Day

These holidays each utilize at least two weekend days. If a holiday doesn’t coincide with a weekend, an adjacent weekend day or two is worked to compensate.
7-day holidays use four weekend days: two within the holiday and two adjacent weekend days, which are worked to compensate.
This is why Chinese people (who wouldn’t normally) are sometimes required to work on Saturdays and Sundays.
