I get it. You want to make sure that the fiancee or spouse that you’re bringing into Canada on a Visit Visa will be approved for a Canadian Visit Visa. It’s important to you, as it should be. What you should know is that the government of Canada does not work like most people. Canadian Visit Visa For Fiance

Dating long distance can be hard for a couple but the battle of getting your fiance into Canada is a whole other hurdle to get over. “How to get my fiance to Canada?” Is often a question our lawyers at VisaPlace get asked on a daily basis. Unfortunately, a fiance doesn’t fall under the family class as a loved one and therefore cannot be sponsored for permanent resident status. Your fiance may qualify for a temporary status such as a temporary resident visa or a Visitor Visa.

A great thing about obtaining a visitor visa is that if your fiance is a citizen of one of the exempt countries, she may not even require a temporary resident visa. She may even remain in Canada for up to six months at a time without being required to exit the country. If your fiance would like to stay in the country for longer that six months, she will need authorization to do so. There is also a way to sponsor your fiance if you have been in a common-law relationship by living together for a minimum of 12 months. There are many requirements to prove you have been living together and have been splitting the financial obligations of residing together for a minimum of 12 months. There are also a number of requirements on your part as well as financial undertakings that you will be responsible for as you are agreeing to sponsor her.

You may apply for common-law partner immigration if you have the forms of proof of:

  • joint bank accounts or credit cards
  • joint ownership of a home
  • joint residential leases
  • joint rental receipts
  • joint registration or payments of utilities (electricity, gas, telephone),
  • joint management of households expenses,
  • joint purchases, especially of household items, or mail addressed to either person or both people at the same address.

Although there are a few options you may be able to take to bring your fiance to Canada, the easiest way is get married first. If you are married first, the process for bringing your wife to Canada is much easier than attempting to bringing your fiance.
