Best places to write a book
When looking for the best places to write a book you have so many options: get a laptop, buy a journal or notebook, or sit in front of your computer. The best solution? Probably one of those three…because they are FREE! It’s also best to get yourself out of the house when you are focused on getting something done. That way distractions don’t cause you to lose hours of work.
Are you thinking about writing a book? Good for you! But there are a lot of things to consider before starting, and one of them is where you should start writing it. There are many different places that offer various benefits for authors. I wrote my first book on a blog platform which I also used for my blog at the time, and that worked fine, but I decided to move on when it came to my second one because blogging and writing books are two separate beasts, and so needed to be treated as such.
Let’s be honest. You’re not really considering outsourcing your book, are you? Writing a book is a lot of work, you should be hiring someone who knows what they’re doing…right? But do you really have the budget to hire a top-notch ghostwriter? Well, maybe not. That’s why I’ve created this list of great places where you could get started with writing your book.

1) The Beach – The beach is one of our favorite places to write because there is nothing else going on but sand, water, and sun (unless you bring some friends with you). If you go during low tide, then it’s even better because there will be fewer people around than usual so it’ll feel like your own private island!
2) A Coffee Shop – Coffee shops are another great place to write because they provide a calm atmosphere where people are focused on their work instead of being distracted by loud noises coming from other tables or phones ringing off-key somewhere nearby (yes we’ve all seen/heard this happen before). Plus everyone else has headphones on anyways so nobody will notice if yours aren’t plugged in properly
Best places to write a book
Introduction
If you’ve ever dreamed of writing the next great novel or finding your voice as a poet, then you know that inspiration can strike at any time—and from almost anywhere. Some writers have their desk, chair and pen by their side at all times so they don’t miss the sudden urge to create. Others go on pilgrimages to destinations known for inspiring some of the world’s most famous authors. If that sounds like you, here are 10 places where you can find your muse for writing your next book (or even just crossing off a bucket list item).
The Paris Review
The Paris Review is an American literary magazine that has been publishing the best writing since 1953. The offices are located in New York City, but they also host events in Paris once a year. You can find out more about these events here: http://www.theparisreview.com/about-us/events/festival-of-writing/.
The easiest way to get there from the US is by plane or car—you’ll be traveling through Canada, so make sure you have a passport! If you choose to fly, there are flights every day between JFK international airport in New York City and Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) in France. To drive there takes 12 hours if you take I-95 southbound through Connecticut and Rhode Island before crossing into Maine at Portland; then it’s another 3 hours until you hit Quebec City where the two countries meet up again on Highway 20 northbound towards Gaspé Peninsula and finally Montreal City Centre! Just make sure not to forget any important documents such as photo ID or passport when traveling abroad…
20 Cafe Paris
How many times have you been in a cafe, enjoying your latte, when an idea for a book was born? It’s safe to say that this has happened at least once. And if it hasn’t happened yet, then it will happen soon enough—and you need to be prepared!
While there are multiple cafes where you can write a book in Paris—from the two-story La Maison des Auteurs on Boulevard Saint-Germain to Le Musée de la Vie Romantique on Rue de Renneville—you might want something more intimate (and less crowded). That’s where 20 Café Paris comes in. This adorable little spot has just enough space for six tables and the occasional writerly person who wants some peace and quiet. It also serves delicious food that will keep your mind sharp while you work: croissants with jam or chocolate cake with ice cream are just some of the options available at lunchtime; other meals include omelets and quiches made with seasonal ingredients such as tomatoes or mushrooms alongside salads dressed with vinaigrette dressing made from olive oil infused with herbs like parsley or tarragon.
Even if writing isn’t your thing but meeting up with other writers is something that appeals to you then this could still be an ideal location because 20 Café Paris hosts weekly events including readings from well-known authors such as Marie Darrieussecq (whose latest novel I Am Your Man was published last year), Camille Laurens (author of The Book of Nights) and Jean Echenoz (whose latest novel A Novel In Nine Letters was published last month).
A la Mere de Famille
A la Mere de Famille is a great place to write a book. The staff is friendly, the food is delicious and the ambiance is perfect for people watching.
The restaurant has an impressive selection of wines and desserts, which you can enjoy while you write your masterpiece.
The service at A la Mere de Famille is excellent and they will make sure that you have everything you need to write your book in peace.

Le Procope – Paris’ Oldest Restaurant
- Le Procope is the oldest restaurant in Paris.
- It is located in the oldest part of Paris, the Marais, which also happens to be my favorite area of town. The Marais has a lot to offer: it has lots of beautiful architecture and cobblestone streets; it’s home to many museums and art galleries; there are plenty of fun bars and cafes where you can hang out with friends or write your book.
- Le Procope has an amazing chocolate cake on their menu that will make you smile as soon as you see it! If you’re going for something savory instead, go for one of their croques monsieurs (they serve them hot or cold). They make everything from scratch so don’t miss out on this treat! The best part? You can get either one for less than $10 USD—and that’s not even including tax or tip yet!
Cologny, Switzerland
Cologny is a small town in the Canton of Geneva, Switzerland. It is a municipality of the Canton of Geneva and it is considered as an upscale suburb of Geneva. The town has a population of approximately 2,500 people.
The main attractions in Cologny include its Château de Cologny which was built by Charles-Louis de Saulces de Freycinet, who was an 18th century French politician and historian. He also served as Prime Minister under Louis XVIII from 1819 to 1830. There are also gardens at his chateau that were built during his time there and they are still maintained today by his descendants who live on site now or visit regularly depending on whether they have homes elsewhere too or not (and if so where those locations might be).
Where Hermann Hesse Wrote “Siddhartha”
Hermann Hesse was a German-Swiss poet, novelist, and painter. He is best known for his novels Steppenwolf, Siddhartha and The Glass Bead Game. Some of his other works include Beneath the Wheel (1906), Demian (1919), Journey to the East (1932) and Narcissus and Goldmund (1930).
Hesse won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1946 “for his inspired writings which, while growing in boldness and penetration, exemplify the classical humanitarian ideals and high qualities of style”.
Castello di Spannocchia – Tuscany, Italy

The Casa Azul – Mexico City, Mexico
If you’re looking for a quiet, peaceful place to focus on your book, this is the spot for you. The Casa Azul is located in Mexico City and offers private bedrooms with kitchenettes, bathrooms and living rooms for $1,500 per month. The building feels like home—especially if you’re used to living with roommates—but there are several other people around (about five or six) so it’s not totally isolated from others either.
If you want a more social setting where there will be plenty of other people around at all times (which can be good for some but not others), then this might not fit the bill as well. This location also doesn’t have much in terms of amenities; you’ll need to leave the apartment if you want any food besides what’s provided in your kitchenette or go out into Mexico City if hiking trails are what interests you most during your stay here.
Ballymaloe Cookery School – Ireland
Ballymaloe Cookery School is a culinary school in Ireland. It was founded by Darina Allen in County Cork and it is a small family-run business that offers delicious food and cooking classes to people who want to learn more about food and its preparation. There are two different options when you decide to study at Ballymaloe Cookery School: the three-day course or the five-day course. You will be able to cook some amazing dishes during your stay, but if you want something more intense, then this program might be the one for you!
