Best places to stay in breckenridge for skiing

Breckenridge is a ski resort town, so you’re going to want a place that’s close to the slopes. Luckily, it’s also home to some of the best accommodations in all of Colorado. Here are our top three picks for where to stay when you visit:

1. The Westin Riverfront Hotel

The Westin Riverfront Hotel is located right on Main Street in downtown Breckenridge, which means that it’s close to all of the shops and restaurants in town as well as being on the bus route that will take you up to the ski resort area. It’s also right next door to the Riverwalk Center, which is full of shops and restaurants and has great views of the river. The rooms are large and comfortable, with hardwood floors and fireplaces in some rooms. This five-star hotel has been rated as one of the best in America by Condé Nast Traveler Magazine every year since 2003! Rooms start at $529 per night with rates varying based on what you want.

4. The Bivvi Hostel

Why We Chose It

Forget everything you thought you knew about hostels—the Bivvi has Instagram-worthy triple bunk beds, hot tubs, a happy hour (built around Colorado microbrews), and abundant good vibes.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Hot tub with mountain views
  • Complimentary hot breakfast
  • Fun social atmosphere in common areas

Cons

  • Not pet-friendly
  • No guests under 12 years old
  • Need to take a bus to get to lifts and downtown
  • No fitness center

The Bivvi is an excellent option for those seeking a Breck experience on a budget; it is also the best place in town for the most outdoorsy visitors to meet like-minded travelers. If the hostel’s name, an ode to mountaineering equipment, doesn’t give you the hint, then the section of the website’s FAQs dedicated to amenities for thru-hikers should. Despite the low price points, the rooms at this hostel look nothing like the associations you might have of barebones bunk beds and broken lockers.

The eight rooms can be booked as shared rooms or private rooms, and for those willing to pay more, there’s the hot tub suite, which includes a fireplace as well as a private jacuzzi. All rooms have Norwegian Pine beds, bedside reading lanterns, and funky, rustic decor—think Pendleton-style blankets and log cabin walls. Travelers may come to the Bivvy for the competitive prices, but what brings them back is the warm and welcoming social scene. Fellow wanders can be found nightly around the fire on the back deck, comparing trail stories and gear recs over Colorado microbrews.

5. Mountain Thunder Lodge

Why We Chose It

The fireplaces, patios, and quiet location make this resort feel like an intimate and secluded oasis at the heart of Breck.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Condo units feature fully-equipped kitchens and fireplaces
  • Walking distance to Main Street and lifts
  • Mountainside year-round outdoor pool and hot tubs

Cons

  • No on-site restaurant
  • Ski-in, gondola-out access only

The Mountain Thunder Lodge is nestled amongst the aspens, a short walk away from the busy ski lift areas and downtown Breck. The hotel offers ski-in access, although skiers have to take a gondola out. But the sweeping views, fireplaces, outdoor pools, and exceptionally cozy rooms are worth the few minutes of extra walking (or shuttle-riding). There are lots of family-friendly amenities at this property, but the overall feeling of serenity and slight separation from the activity of the rest of Breckenridge makes it a great choice for those looking to turn their ski trip into a romantic getaway.

After a long day on the slopes, couples can enjoy the warm glow of in-room stone fireplaces, enjoy some après wine and cheese from a private, mountainside patio, or soak in the outdoor hot tub. Condo-style units are individually owned, but feature uniform, rustic decor. There is no on-site restaurant, but the plethora of options on Main Street are just a short walk or shuttle ride away.

6. Residence Inn by Marriott Breckenridge

Why We Chose It

This hotel’s location is perfect for parties divided between spending their days speeding down the slopes and ambling down Main Street.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Central location just off Main Street
  • Amazing rooftop views
  • One of the most pet-friendly hotels in Breckenridge

Cons

  • Not ski-in, ski-out
  • No on-site restaurant

Getting up early to catch the first lift isn’t for everyone. For visitors to Breckenridge who would prefer to skip straight to the après ski, the Residence Inn is the perfect home base. The hotel is located adjacent to the lively downtown area and Main Street. After enjoying the complimentary hot breakfast, non-skiing guests can head up to the hotel’s year-round outdoor rooftop pool to take in the views, stroll around the gear shops, breweries, and cafes in historic downtown, or hike along the nearby Blue River Recreation path, which runs parallel to Main Street.

For those who are intent on hitting the slopes, the Residence Inn offers access to lifts via shuttles, and a convenient storage space for gear in the lobby. Rooms are clean and comfortable, with standard Marriott-style furnishings. Many rooms feature fully equipped kitchens. Downtown Breck is chock-full of charm, and those looking to explore the area beyond ski terrain could do worse than putting themselves at the heart of this lively village.
