best places to eat in morgantown wv

Growing up in Morgantown, West Virginia, I never felt as though it was lacking in good places to eat. There’s plenty of restaurants within the Morgantown area that offer specific dishes — whether they are Chinese, Mexican, or American — and many more that have amazing specials that don’t fall into just one category. We used to live on top of a small mountain, so we were always able to get in a great hike before heading home from any of the below places. Eat well with this list of my favorite places to eat in Morgantown.

When you travel, you expect to see new things. There’s nothing quite like going out on an adventure and finding yourself in an authentic environment. And with adventure comes hunger, of course. I’ve got just the list for you! Morgantown is the perfect place for new local eating experiences, and here are a few of my favorites.

The best places to eat in Morgantown, West Virginia are:

  1. Mountain State Brewing Company: This brewery has a great selection of beers, including their own brews and other craft beers from across the country. You can also enjoy a bite to eat at their restaurant or take home some beer and cheese to drink later!
  2. Funko’s: This family-owned restaurant serves up delicious Italian food with an emphasis on fresh ingredients, local produce, and homemade pastas. They also have an extensive wine list and excellent service!
  3. Ciao Bambino: This Italian bistro has some of the best pizza in town—and it’s not just because it’s by far the only place that serves pizza! Their crust is thin but sturdy, with just enough chewiness to hold up under all of your favorite toppings (and if you’re feeling extra hungry, try one of their calzones). They also serve other Italian favorites like lasagna and chicken parmesan along with salads if you’re looking for something lighter than a full meal.

Morgantown is a beautiful place, but it can be tough to find time to get out and enjoy the scenery when you’re busy with work or school. Luckily, Morgantown has a number of restaurants where you can sit down, relax, and enjoy a meal while taking in the scenery on your own time. Here are some of our favorite places!

The Brickhouse: This restaurant serves up an eclectic mix of American cuisine and Asian fusion dishes that are sure to wow your tastebuds.

Papa’s Pizza: Papa’s has been around since 1978 and is known for their delicious pizza pies and family-friendly atmosphere. They’re open late on weekends so it’s perfect for those nights when you just want to unwind after work/school/whatever else you do!

Cafe Bella: This Italian restaurant is known for its delicious pastas, pizzas, calzones & more. Their menu also includes salads & soups so there’s something for everyone!

Tommy’s Restaurant: This diner-style restaurant offers classic American favorites like burgers & fries along with unique entrees like chicken alfredo or shrimp scampi pasta dishes. The prices are reasonable too which makes this place great for families with kids who might be picky eaters

BLACK BEAR BURRITOS/EVANSDALE (MEXICAN)

More than just some of the best Mexican food in Morgantown, this place is also a microbrewery with live music! At Black Bear Burrito’s, you can try savory dishes with a bit of flair from all around the world including Italian and Creole cuisines. We love the tangy pesto quesadilla and Feta Fetish burritos, along with the Creole style Irie Member burrito. Slathered in house-made Jamaican Jerk sauce it’s a winner!

LA TAPATIA FOOD MARKET AND TACOS (TACOS)

Don’t let the fact that it’s a food market scare you off. The La Tapatia Food Market serves some of the most authentic Mexican street-style tacos in all of West Virginia for only $2.75 apiece! These budget-friendly eats are also available at their food truck. With house-made tomatillo sauce, fresh cilantro, and onions to add to the tacos – your experience will transport you straight to the sandy beaches of Mexico. The cinnamon-sugar-covered churros are worth the wait as well!

BUBBLE FISH (POKE BOWLS)

We absolutely love this restaurant for college students! Not only does Bubble Fish have bubble tea, but they also have delicious poke bowls!! If you’re looking for a healthy restaurant, Bubble Fish has gluten-free, vegetarian, pescatarian options and so much more. Shelbs ordered the Spicy Tuna Bowl, and it was so fresh, that we came back two days in a row!

SAIGON PHO KITCHEN (VIETNAMESE)

The best part about Saigon is its easy-to-use online ordering system. As any busy college student knows, you barely have time between classes, work, and studying to cook.. so being able to grab meals on the go is key. Saigon also has a section of the menu called ‘First Timer’s Recommendation’ for anyone who hasn’t tried Vietnamese before! We’d recommend the Fried Pot Stickers, Grilled Chicken Banh mi (sandwich), or a heart Pho Ga (chicken noodle soup).

  • Saigon Pho Kitchen Address: 3109 University Ave, Morgantown, WV 26505

YAMA (JAPANESE)

Authentically prepared Japanese food right in the heart of Morgantown. (By caring owners who actually speak Japanese and hail from Japan no-less!) Within a few blocks from the Morgantown Brewing Company, this would be a perfect budget-friendly date night to grab dinner and then head over for a few beers at Morgantown’s best brewery. What to try: Ramen, potstickers, and curry rice.

unique restaurants to eat in morgantown wv

instanbul restaurants

Love Mediterranean food? Only a short walk from campus, find the tastes of the Mediterranean Sea. Istanbul Restaurant serves traditional dishes like kabobs, hummus, and gyros! You can also find more traditional Turkish dishes, like Izgara Kofte (a beef, lamb, and onion patty) as well as the refreshing parsley and tomato salad, tabbouleh. The best about these meals is that they’re oober filling and packed with flavor that heats up (or stores well in the fridge) for later. Pro Tip: layer the Tabbouleh over your main dish for an explosion of Turkish flavor

EL POLLON II (PERUVIAN)

What we love about Peruvian food is its simplicity. Quoted as being ‘phenomenal food with excellent variety’, there is nothing to dislike about El Pollon II. Expect whole or half portions of an in-house-roasted rotisserie chicken, buttery smooth Peruvian rice, and expertly prepared sweet plantains as a side dish. The best part is – you can get a healthy chicken burrito for just $5! (Also great for picky eaters, and gluten-sensitive bellies!) All within a few minutes walking distance from Ruby Memorial Hospital near WVU’s campus.

  • El Pollon II Address: 1111 Van Voorhis Rd Morgantown, WV 26505

BOMBAY INDIAN GRILL (INDIAN)

Within walking distance of West Virginia University’s campus, find Bombay Indian Grill’s savory and delicious shop. Easily taken on the go for picnics or the busy college student, you can also customize your level of spice. (Typically Indian food is known to be very spicy but the owners have made an art of creating dishes for beginner to experienced Indian food lovers!) Try the butter chicken, fluffy garlic naan bread, and all kinds of tikka masala. You won’t be disappointed!
