6 Month Visa For America

The United States of America, whom we affectionately call the “USA” is recognized as the land of opportunities. It has been helping people to fulfill their dreams and attain success in life through its opportunities and by granting a lot of facilities to every citizen. As a global economy becomes more and more interconnected, there is an increased demand for global mobility. The United States has become the main destination for new immigrants in recent years.

Understanding the USA visa process and obtaining a visa for the USA can be difficult for those wanting to study in the United States. Fortunately, there is a relatively short-term working visa for students looking to spend up to 6 months in the United States. This post outlines the requirements and documents needed to obtain this 6 month visa for students.

What is a B2 Tourist Visa?

The B2 Tourist Visa is designed for those who wish to travel to the United States as a tourist or for those seeking medical treatment. With this temporary nonimmigrant visa, you will be able to see family and friends in the United States as well as visit famous landmarks and cities throughout our great country.

The B2 Visa is mainly for the purposes of tourism, making it one of the most popular U.S. visas of all. You can use this permit to take part in recreational activities, such as:

  • Tourism
  • Vacation (holiday)
  • Visit with friends, relatives, or close family members
  • Medical treatment
  • Participation in social events hosted by fraternal, social, or service organizations
  • Participation by amateurs in musical, sports, or similar events or contests, if not being paid for participating
  • Enrollment in a short recreational course of study, not for credit toward a degree (for example, a two-day cooking class while on vacation)

If would like to visit the United States for business purposes, you may want to consider applying for the B1 visa. This temporary visitor visa allows foreign nationals to come to the U.S. in order to participate in activities such as business meetings, liaising with business associates, attending conferences, and any other activity important to their business.

There is no annual cap imposed on the number of people who can receive a B2 Tourist Visa, which means the processing time for this visa is relatively quick.

“Thorough, Simple & Approachable Service. My Lawyer/Rep Daniel was very easy to speak with and very knowledgeable of the ins and outs of the process. Immigration can be a very intimidating subject yet our conversation was clear and simple to navigate. “

Who can use the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) Program?

Tourists to the United States who are from certain countries in the visa waiver program, do not need to apply for a B2 visa. Instead, they can apply for a travel permit through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA). Foreign nationals are able to receive travel permits granted by the ESTA program much faster than B-2 nonimmigrant visas that are issued by a U.S. Consulate or Embassy.

Individuals who do not qualify for the visa waiver program will need to apply for a B-2 visa through a local U.S. Consulate or Embassy in their foreign country of residence. It should be noted that, unlike a B-2 visa which is valid for six months, travel permits acquired through the ESTA program only last for 90 days.

Furthermore, Canadian citizens and travelers who are citizens of Bermuda do not require visas to enter the U.S. if they are traveling for a visit, tourism and/or temporary business purposes.

Applicants aged 14 – 79 are required to apply for a visa in person through a pre-arranged interview. Applicants under 14 or 80 and over may be eligible to apply by courier. Click here for further information.
